8.2 Right to be Informed
The right to be informed encompasses the obligation to make individuals aware that their data is being processed. This information is usually contained in the data controller’s Privacy Policy. A copy can be requested by making a subject access request (see section 8.1).
The public are entitled to a statement as to the purpose of a CCTV scheme, how they may be affected and their rights in addition to the information displayed on the public information signs located adjacent to and within the defined area of the scheme.
This information may be provided at ‘arm’s length’ in the case of the compliance service provided by VeriFi; where an individual requesting information about the CCTV is given the site reference number and advised to go to www.datasubject.info where the relevant information can be viewed and a subject access request may be initiated.
